2008
White Ibis — near Gettysburg, Adams County; July 31, 2008. Photos by Mike Weible. These photos were taken by Mike Weible, who originally spotted the bird as he drove across the Red Rock Road bridge over Marsh Creek, southwest of Gettysburg. Note the long, downcurved bill, the light brown neck, and the dark brown upperparts.
White Ibis — near Gettysburg, Adams County; August 1, 2008. Photos by Bob Moul. These additional photos were taken of the bird during the following morning. Again, note the long, downcurved bill, the light brown neck, and the dark brown upperparts.
White Ibis — Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area, Lancaster County; July 20, 2008. Photo by Geoff Malosh. This bird represents the second White Ibis documented during mid-July of 2008. It was first seen on July 17th and was originally thought to possibly be the same bird as the one seen on the Conejohela Flats earlier that same week. However, it seems unlikely that the much more orange coloration in the bill and around the eye would have been acquired in just five days time. Compare with the bird below.
White Ibis — Conejohela Flats, Lancaster County; July 15, 2008. Photos by Devin Bosler. This bird was found by Bob Schutsky on July 10th. Note the long, downcurved bill, the light brown neck, and the dark brown upperparts.
2007
White Ibis — Wade Island near Harrisburg, Dauphin County; August 8, 2007. Photos by Don Detwiler. Note the long, downcurved bill, which is turning orange (especially near its base), the light brown neck, and the dark brown upperparts. This excellent flight shot shows the white rump in addition to the long, downcurved, dull orange bill, the light brown neck, and the dark brown upperparts.
White Ibis — near Mount Bethel, Northampton County; August 7, 2007. Photos by Dave DeReamus. This bird was discovered by Barry and Doris Transue at a pond on their property. Note the long, downcurved bill, which is changing from dull pink to orange (especially near its base), the light brown neck, and the dark brown upperparts. The white showing on the right side of the bird is just a misaligned feather. This bird represents only the 2nd record for Northampton County. Note the white belly and white rump in addition to the long, downcurved, dull orange bill, the light brown neck, and the dark brown upperparts. Note the white belly and white on the shoulder of the wing. The light blue iris is barely visible in this photo.
