Hawkwatching Sites
Pennsylvania has a rich history of hawkwatching. The first hawk migration sanctuary was established in 1934 at Hawk Mountain on the Berks/Schuylkill county line.
As the word of the hawk migration there spread, other sites were manned, soon spreading up and down the ridges of the Appalachian Mountains. In more recent years, non-ridge sites have also been created (such as Militia Hill). Even these sites benefit from the large number of raptors migrating from New England and Canada towards southern locales.
The sites listed on the linked map below are sites open to the public. Most have been active for many years.
