DESCRIPTION: This federally-owned 70,000-acre national recreation area is situated along the Delaware River in Pike and Monroe counties between the towns of Milford and Stroudsburg. The diversity of habitats including river floodplain, hemlock ravines, fields, parks, lakes, and wetlands are what makes the birding special. Birding this huge park can be overwhelming and birding can be productive and even spectacular anywhere within the park. The spots below are the best stop locations.

Other noteworthy locations - Hialeah Picnic Area, Community Drive Wetland, Dingmans Falls, Any of the boat launch areas, Van Ness Road in New Jersey

The area along the Delaware River has a high number of deer ticks. Other potential hazards of the park include Black Bear, Timber Rattlesnake, and Copperhead. Most parts of the recreation area are open to hunting.

The town of Stroudsburg along I-80 has all your food, lodging, and gas needs. Camping is located within the recreation area at Dingmans Campground and the Pocono Environmental Education Center.

DIRECTIONS: From I-80, take Exit 310 for PA 611 South. Follow the signs for River Road. (Coming from the west, after exiting, at the first light, turn left onto River Road. Coming from the east, after crossing back over I-80, go about 0.25 mile and exit right to River Road.)
