DESCRIPTION: This 1,085-acre park has a few large conifers that can attract winter finches (crossbills, Evening Grosbeak, redpolls, and Pine Siskin) some years. Locally rare birds have included Red-throated Loon, American Avocet, and Red Crossbill. Scan the 42-acre lake and beach area for occasional waterfowl, shorebirds, or Osprey. A good passerine migrant spot is where the Little Aughwick Creek feeds Cowan's Lake. Visitors with more time can walk the campsite parking areas for treetop migrants. The lakeside trail is easy to follow, but birding is average at best.

DIRECTIONS: Just a mile north of McConnellsburg, at the junction of US 30/US 522, go east on US 30 for 3.4 miles. At the summit of Tuscarora Mountain (hawkwatchers' The Pulpit), turn left (north) onto Aughwick Road. Proceed another 6.0 miles to get to the park office on the left.
