Description: Return to the parking lot and drive left to Callowhill Road. Go left and turn left at Creek Road. Go past the first gravel driveway, which goes to the park maintenance area, and then turn left at the next gravel driveway and parking lot. Again, if you have time, walk toward the dam on the Bike & Hike Trail and check any exposed lake edge for shorebirds. Following the Bike Trail leads to the dam breast for another access to this great viewing spot. Note that the picnic tables near a large tree on the grassy area between the parking lot and the dam is the hawk watch site used in mid-September during the annual Broad-winged Hawk count. Walking on the Bike & Hike Trail away from the dam will produce Warbling Vireo and Orchard Oriole during the breeding season. The wooden fishing pier down the trail produced the first Royal Tern record after a hurricane. |
