FRIDAY OCT 17

1:00 PM – Caravan to Montrose area lakes and wetlands – Tom Norville
We will tour to a number of local water features for resident and migrating waterfowl and waders. 6750 PA-706, Montrose, PA 18801 41.8376, -75.8530 From the traffic light at the intersection of Grow Ave (Rt 167) and Rt 29, travel east on 167 for less than 1/2 mi. Meet in the Price Chopper parking lot. Look for participants parked in the parking spaces closest to the road and farthest from the store. Public restrooms in the store.

SATURDAY OCT 18

8:00 AM – D&H Rail Trail parking on Ararat Road – Chris Fischer

Easy walking through a variety of habitats: woodland, lake, and extensive wetland. Ararat Rd, Thompson, PA 18465 41.8233, -75.5258

From the intersection of Main and Jackson Streets in Thompson, follow Jackson St (Rt 171) southwest 0.6 mi. Turn right onto Rt 1001 then immediately south on to Ararat Road. Parking area is 2.7 mi south at the intersection of Ararat Rd and Town House Rd. Porta potty in parking area

SUNDAY OCT 19

8:00 AM – Salt Springs State Park – Tony DeSantis

We will walk along dirt roads and trails along abandoned fields and old growth forest in search of migrants heading south. Be prepared for rugged trails which can be steep in sections. 2305 Salt Springs Rd, Montrose, PA 18801 41.9119, -75.8656

1:00 PM – Woodbourne Sanctuary – Justin Mann

With 6 mi of maintained trails, we will explore an old growth forest, transitional fields, a large pond and a beautiful wetland with a viewing platform. 8500 PA-29, Montrose, PA 18801 41.7616, -75.8979 No facilities.


MONDAY OCT 20

8:00 AM – State Gamelands 35 and the Susquehanna River

The Susquehanna River provides potential for spotting species not found elsewhere in the county. We will slow ride Harmony Rd, stopping for about an hour at SGL35 before continuing to the Cascade Wye on the Rails to Trails just south of the state line. After a quick stop at the historic Starrucca Viaduct, we will return to Hallstead on the north side of the river, stopping at several birding spots along the way. Meet at the Hallstead boat launch which is at the intersection of US-11 and Harmony Rd (south end of the bridge over the river).
