DESCRIPTION:

DIRECTIONS: Return to the main park road and turn right. Proceed 0.4 miles to a pull-off on the right that overlooks the spillway and affords a good view of most of the reservoir. In March and April, waterfowl and Horned and Pied-billed grebes may be on the lake, but only very occasionally and in very small numbers. In April and May, swallows congregate over the spillway, and on good mornings all six regular species have been seen there, with Cliff Swallow and (especially) Purple Martin being the most unexpected.

Continue on the park road another 0.7 miles to a right turn at a yellow gate. This road proceeds along the lakeshore for about 0.75 mile and terminates in a parking lot next to a small "beach." The entire road can be good in spring and fall for migrants, which work the treeline next to the lake and the hillside to the left. This is also another reliable spot for Yellow-throated Warbler from mid-April to mid-May, and possibly into the summer.
