Directions: Beyond the second Hilltop picnic area (which is 0.5 miles beyond the first), continue another 0.3 miles to the entrance to the Family Campground. Park your car along the park road or the campground entrance road and walk in - migrants are usually apparent, and this is also one of the better places in the park to see American Redstart and Yellow-throated Vireo throughout spring and summer. After another 0.4 miles along the park road there is a pullout on the left near an old abandoned bathroom facility. This hillside is one of the best locations for spring migrants, especially in the early morning as this is one of the first spots in the park to see direct sunlight. Cape May, Bay-breasted, and Black-throated Blue warblers have been noted particularly often here in the first half of May. |
