Description: Return To River Road and continue north for 0.75 mile. The headquarters building entrance is located on the right. Park in the small lot as you turn off river road. Park Headquarters features a large wooded swamp surrounding the back of the administrative building with a short boardwalk and platforms. The swamp is locally famous for its population of Red-Headed Woodpecker which can be found year-round. Other birds of note in the swamp include nesting Wood Duck, Hooded Merganser, Green Heron, Brown Creeper, Eastern Bluebird, and Pileated Woodpecker. The swamp also is a nice migrant trap and has a knack for attracting raptors. |
