West Fairview Boat Launch and East Pennsboro Township Park
Cumberland
DESCRIPTION: West Fairview Boat Launch is one of the best spots to view migrant waterfowl along the Susquehanna River. Although the boat launching area is in Cumberland County, the county line runs along the west shore, hence any birds seen on the river are in Dauphin County. Large flocks of waterfowl congregate along this stretch of the river with the largest numbers in spring, although fall storms can dump large flocks as well. Nearby nesting Great Egret, Black-crowned Night-Heron, and Double-crested Cormorant can be seen in summer and post-breeding wanderers such as Snowy Egret and Little Blue Heron are seen annually. In late summer, low water exposes mud flats that attract shorebirds. Adjacent East Pennsboro Township Park along the Conodoguinet Creek has riparian woodland habitat which is good for migrant passerines. A well-defined looping trail approximately half a mile long provides access to the woodlands.

DIRECTIONS: From Harrisburg, take the Market Street Bridge across the Susquehanna River and turn right (north) onto Front Street and drive two miles. At the traffic light turn right onto Market Street and right again onto South Front Street. The launch is at the end of the street. From the boat launching area, walk west under the highway bridge to follow the trail along the Conodoguinet Creek.
