Stroud Preserve
Chester
DESCRIPTION: This 574-acre preserve consists of rolling grasslands, working farmlands and woodlands. There are several spring-fed runs, wetlands, and ponds which drain into the East Branch of the Brandywine Creek which flows through the property. The preserve is owned and managed by the Natural Lands Trust and is recognized by Audubon Pennsylvania as an Important Bird Area (IBA). There are 15 miles of pedestrian and equestrian trails and dogs are allowed on a leash. Over 120 bird species have been identified on the preserve. The grasslands are managed to allow nesting of grassland birds such as Bobolinks and Eastern Meadowlarks, and the expected species can be observed in the woods, wetlands, and along the Brandywine Creek. Many species of butterflies can be observed in summer.

DIRECTIONS: The Stroud Preserve is situated in East Bradford Township. From the intersection of US 322 and PA 162 in West Chester, take PA 162 west for about 1.86 miles and turn left on North Creek Road. Go 0.3 mile to the entrance and parking lot on the right. A sign and trail map are situated by the parking lot.
