DESCRIPTION: These reclaimed strip mines are hot spots for sparrows in Clearfield County.

DIRECTIONS: From Luthersburg, go south on US 219 (right at the "Y") for 1.9 miles and turn right onto Schuckers Orchard Road. Follow this road for 1.25 miles, turn right onto Stoney Lonesome Road. Drive to the top of the hill and scan the fields on either side for Henslow's, Savannah, and Grasshopper sparrows. Return to Schuckers Orchard Road and turn right, go 0.1 mile to the T. Turn right (still on Schuckers Orchard Road) and go to the top of the hill, looking and listening for Henslow's Sparrows in the orchard. Turn around and follow Schuckers Orchard Road back to US 219. Check the Christmas tree plantation along the way for Prairie Warbler. At US 219 turn left (north) then go 0.5 mile to the bottom of the dip and turn right onto Bloom Road. Follow this dirt road for 0.5 mile, then search the large fields on the left for Henslow's, Savannah, and Grasshopper sparrows and possible Horned Lark. Continue past the farm and you come to fenced fields on either side of the road. Check here for Bobolink, Savannah and Grasshopper sparrows. Follow this road past overgrown fields, woods, etc. for approximately another mile and you come to US 322. There is a productive woody swamp nearby. After turning left (west) onto US 322, go 0.25 mile, then turn right onto the paved Pine Swamp Road. Go 0.52 mile and check swamp on both sides of the road for Green Heron, Great Blue Heron, Alder Flycatcher, Rose Breasted Grosbeak, etc. After birding through the swamp, turn around and go back to US 322, turn right (west) onto US 322 and travel one mile back to the starting point in Luthersburg.
