Struble Lake
Chester
DESCRIPTION: Struble Lake, in northwestern Chester County, is a man-made impoundment developed by the PFBC which is good for migrating waterfowl and wintering gulls and owls.

DIRECTIONS: From the intersection of PA 10 and PA 23 in downtown Morgantown, go east on PA 23 for 50 yards and turn right on Mill Road. Follow this road for 3.9 miles (it changes into Morgantown Road) to entrance on the right. The lake can be scanned from the parking area. The conifers to the north of the parking area often host Short-eared and Long-eared owls in the winter. There is a very wet shoreline trail leading to the north of the parking area that leads to a cove (about 1/8 mile) that can harbor a few shorebirds when the water is low. The most productive time to visit Struble Lake is during the colder months—October through April. Good concentrations of various waterfowl can be found on this impoundment, with peak numbers in November and late March. However, it is open to hunting and fishing, so numbers can vary greatly depending on the amount of human activity on the lake. It is also a winter roost for gulls, mostly Ring-billed and Herring, but Great Black-backed, Lesser Black-backed, Glaucous and Iceland are seen regularly as well.
