| DESCRIPTION: Located in the southeastern corner of the county, this park and the nearby Goat Hill Serpentine Barrens offer a unique habitat in the state—the largest occurrence of serpentine barrens (extremely rare areas characterized by thin soil and bare, light green rock) in the eastern United States. Birds of note found here include Pine Warbler, Whip-poor-will, and recently, nesting Summer Tanager (in the park). This may be the best place left in the state to find Northern Bobwhite. |
DIRECTIONS: To get to Nottingham County Park, from US 1 and PA 272, go south on PA 272 and make the first right onto Herr Road. Go 0.3 mile and turn right on Old Baltimore Pike. Go 0.25 mile and turn right on Park Road. Follow this road 0.8 mile to the park entrance on the left. N 39.7409, W 76.0388 To get to Goat Hill, from US 1 and PA 272, go south on US 1 and, approximately 2.5 miles past the Maryland State Line, turn right onto Red Pump Road. Continue straight on Red Pump Road (past Pleasant Drive and Freemont Road intersections) 1.5 miles to the powerline and the well-marked Goat Hill parking lot on the left |
