Turnpike Pond (Grace Mines Pond, Morgantown Lake)
Berks
DESCRIPTION: This pond next to the PA Turnpike Exit 298 (Morgantown), attracts a smattering of waterfowl during migration. From October to April, Canada Geese abound, and as long as it is unfrozen, Ring-necked Duck, Pied-billed Grebe, Canvasback, Scaup, and Ruddy Duck can frequently be found. It is also a good place to check out migrating swallows on drizzly days in spring.

DIRECTIONS: From PA 10/PA 23 in downtown Morgantown, go north on PA 10 for 1.14 mile and turn left on Mineview Road. Pull off to the right and scan the pond from there. This road is the entrance to the Conestoga Landfill, so pull off as far to the right as possible, as large trucks are constantly entering and exiting.
