Shuey Pond (Shuey Lake)
Lebanon
DESCRIPTION: Small pond at Fort Indiantown Gap with limited facilities for public fishing and birdwatching. Stocked trout and hidden wet coves attract a variety of herons, ducks, and shorebirds as well as an occasional osprey. Occasional military training may disrupt recreation. Both local oriole species are regular breeders, as are bluebirds and green herons. A number of locally rare sightings have been seen in spring, summer, and fall. Shorebirds often hide in the cattails near the parking areas or can be seen in the open on the shore. Herons and ducks can more often be seen in the back of the pond (follow gravel road to the ropes-course pillars). Numerous grassland birds are all around the area (regular breeders include bluebirds, meadowlarks, and Grasshopper Sparrows). Stay in front if military operations are obviously underway.

DIRECTIONS: From I-8 take the Fort Indiantown Gap Exit, 85B. Go 2.8 miles and turn left on Quartermaster Road (see Alice's Alterations just past the turn). Go 0.6 mile to the pond on the left. The public side is on Quartermaster Road, but be aware that military training may supercede recreation.
