Derry Lake (Ethel Spring Lake, Lake Ethel)

DESCRIPTION: Derry Municipal Water Authority Reservoir with a 1-mile walking trail along 2 sides of the lake. The walking path starts and ends at the parking areas. It is 1 mile one way. There are no swampy wetlands at this lake. A variety of migrant waterfowl in spring and fall, including Horned Grebe,scoters,mergansers,Common Goldeneye, Ruddy Duck, American Wigeon, both scaup, Canvasbacks, Redheads, teal, etc. Mute Swans, Canada Geese, Mallards, and Coots are present year round. In 2008 a Sandhill Crane was found.

DIRECTIONS: From the intersection of US 30/PA 982 near Latrobe, follow PA 982 north 5.1 miles to a right onto N. Chestnut St. ext., go 0.5 mi. to the parking lot on the right. From US 22/PA 982 intersection near Blairsville follow PA 982 south 6.7 miles to a left onto N. Chestnut St. ext., go 0.5 mi to the parking lot on the right. Walking the trail around the lake will give close views of waterfowl.
