Rt. 819 Farm Ponds (Brook Shore Lakes)
Westmoreland
DESCRIPTION: Two large farm ponds surrounded by mowed grass and farm fields, approximately 1 mile east of Beaver Run Reservoir. The ponds are on private property but can be easily viewed from public roads. These ponds attract a lot of waterfowl during migration seasons, particularly spring, and also sometimes during winter if they aren't frozen over. You'll want to bring your scope along since you'll be birding from the roads. The lower pond often has more birds than the upper.

DIRECTIONS: From intersection of US.22 and PA 819 in Salem Township, go north on PA 819 for 6 miles (passing through Slickville PA). The ponds will be on your left. To view the upper pond, pull onto the shoulder of PA 819 next to the wooden fence. Be careful, as there isn't much room and traffic goes speeding past on PA 819. To view the lower pond, make the next left onto Rugh Rd. This is a township road. Pull off to the side of the road to park. In either spot, please stay near your car and don't trespass onto the private property.
