Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve
Allegheny
DESCRIPTION: In spring, most eastern migrant warblers can be found passing through this area. Warblers that breed at Beechwood include Yellow, Kentucky, Hooded, Blue-winged, and Common Yellowthroat. The Visitor Center has well-stocked feeders in winter, so winter residents such as Northern Cardinal, both nuthatches, chickadees, American Goldfinch, White-throated Sparrow, and in some years Pine Siskin, are easily seen.

DIRECTIONS: Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve is located in the Borough of Fox Chapel, a suburb of Pittsburgh. From Pittsburgh, go north on PA 28 to PA 8. Go north on PA 8 and, at the first traffic light, turn right onto Kittanning Street and continue for 4.2 miles. Kittanning Street becomes Dorseyville Road 0.8 mile from PA 8. Beechwood is on the left. A variety of habitats comprise this parcel, including a small pond, deciduous forest, open fields and a pine grove. Several trails crisscross the Reserve; a map is available at the visitors' center. Two especially good trails, for the greatest variety of habitat and therefore of birds, are the Upper Fields Trail and the Woodland Trail.
