| DESCRIPTION: There are two counts conducted by two different compilers on SGL 168 just south of the Carbon/Northampton county line, which is located on the ridge of Blue Mountain. In addition hawk watching is done at the Blue Mountain Ski resort just north of the line in Carbon County. The open slopes of the resort offer greater visibility. DIRECTIONS: From the intersection of PA 248 and PA 946 in Berlinsville go northeast on PA 946 for 2.9 miles and turn left (north) on Blue Mountain Road. Go 1.38 miles to the parking area on the left. The entrance to the Blue Mountain Ski resort is 0.3 mile further on the right, is well marked, and the driveway is gated after a short distance. The gates are closed at 4 PM on weekdays and at 5 on Sat and Sun. Although birding is sometimes done in the main lower parking lot, the upper area is often used. Turn right at the blue sign To Main Parking Lot (which will point left), and travel along the driveway as it winds up the hill for about a 0.25 m. This road is rough in places. |
