Five Star Trail
Westmoreland
DESCRIPTION: A bike/walking trail, mostly paved from Greensburg to Youngwood, PA. The section in Youngwood has swampland on both sides of the trail and a fairly large pond on the right side heading in from the parking lot, which is visible but better viewed with a scope. There is a variety of habitat. Herons, kingfishers, along with Canada Geese, Mallards, several other duck species have been seen in/on the pond. Red-winged Blackbirds, Wood Thrush, Baltimore and Orchard orioles, and quite a few warbler species have also been seen here as well as Northern Mockingbirds, Gray Catbird, and a few flycatchers.

DIRECTIONS: The Depot Road access is the best for birding, but other access points (all parallel to PA 119) start in Greensburg at Lynch Field, and continue south to Huff Avenue, Willow Crossing Road, Trolley Line Avenue (Buncher Commerce Park), and finally Depot Street in Youngwood. At the Westmoreland County Community College, the trailhead is located on College Avenue across from the baseball field. See Google Map.
