Trout Run Reservoir (Latrobe Reservoir)

DESCRIPTION: Trout Run Reservoir (also known as Latrobe Reservoir) is a reservoir of the Westmoreland County water system, so the property it is off-limits to people. With the aid of binoculars and a spotting scope, however, you can easily identify birds from the road. Tundra Swan, American Black Duck, American Wigeon, scaup, Ring-necked Duck. Ruddy Duck and most other migrating waterfowl can he seen in the spring and fall. An Osprey often spends a few days fishing on its way north or south. A nesting platform was constructed to encourage a pair to take up residence, but so far this has not been successful. Rarities that have been seen here are Stilt Sandpiper and Red-necked Phalarope.

DIRECTIONS: From US 30 and PA 711, go west on US 30 for 2.3 miles and turn right (north) on PA 259. Go 0.6 mile and turn left (west) on Chrisner Road and go 0.6 mile to the reservoir on the right. Return to PA 259, go left (north) and go 1.7 miles and turn left (west) on Austraw Road. The reservoir is 0.2 mile on the left.
