Harmony Road (SGL 35)
Susquehanna
DESCRIPTION: The Susquehanna River between Great Bend and Susquehanna provides perhaps the best birding in the county during spring migration. As the only large flowing water body in the county, it is the place to go for waterfowl at all times of the year. Northern warblers (Canada, Yellow-rumped), Red-breasted Nuthatch, Louisiana Waterthrush, Acadian Flycatcher are regular nesters.

DIRECTIONS: From I-81, take exit 230 (Great Bend/Susquehanna). Go south on US 11 0.3 mile and turn left (east) onto Harmony Road right after crossing the Susquehanna River bridge. Harmony Road proceeds east of US 11 and hugs the southern side of the Susquehanna River. Along the south side of the road you will pass entrances into SGL 35. These are heavily hunted, so beware of the seasons and wear your orange! Just beyond the PGC buildings is a road heading into the heart of SGL 35. Many walkable roads intersect with this road. This road is very rough. Four-wheel drive is strongly recommended. In wet conditions the road may be impassible. Bald Eagle nest somewhere between SGL 35 and the New York state line along the Susquehanna River. One or more eagles can be found here at any time of the year.
