Bartram's Garden
Philadelphia
DESCRIPTION: Bartram's Garden has 8 acres of America's oldest botanical garden and arboretum, surrounded by 37 acres of wildflower meadow, wetlands, and river walks on the west bank of the Schuylkill River at 54th Street and Lindbergh Boulevard in West Philadelphia. Many woodland and shrubland species stop over in migration and the 1.5-acre wetland hosts Spotted Sandpiper, Lesser Yellowlegs, American Woodcock, and Green Heron in season. Waterfowl and gulls can easily be observed on the river. Great Cormorant could be seen (rare) here in winter. Willow Flycatcher and White-eyed Vireo are summer residents.

DIRECTIONS: Coming from the city on I-76, use Exit 346B, Gray's Ferry Avenue. Bear left on the exit ramp and turn left at the traffic light onto 34th Street/University Avenue. At next light turn right onto Gray's Ferry Avenue and cross the Schuylkill River. Take the first left onto Paschall Avenue. Turn left at next light onto 49th Street and around bend onto Gray's Avenue. Follow the trolley tracks and bear left onto Lindbergh Boulevard at the fork. Just beyond the 54th Street sign, immediately after crossing the railroad bridge, make a sharp left turn into the entrance, which is not visible until after crossing the bridge. Open daily except holidays from 10-5.
