Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education
Philadelphia
DESCRIPTION: The Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education (SCEE) encompasses woodland and farmland parcels that were worked until the 1960s. Ponds and streams attract specialized species, and a series of well-marked trails will take you to all habitats. On the Butterfly Meadow Loop in summer you might see Eastern Bluebird, Indigo Bunting, Chipping Sparrow, Song Sparrow, or American Goldfinch. The Ravine Loop boasts Baltimore Oriole, Scarlet Tanager, Acadian Flycatcher, Eastern Phoebe, Eastern Wood-Pewee, Wood Thrush, American Redstart, and Pileated Woodpecker. Use the bird blind, which often has feeders stocked, or take the Woodcock Trail for Eastern Towhee, Common Yellowthroat, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, and lots of Gray Catbird.
