F D Roosevelt Park
Philadelphia
DESCRIPTION: This park is important because of the number of birds and variety of species present in fall and winter. It includes two ecosystems that are nearly extinct in Pennsylvania, coastal plain forest and fresh-water tidal marsh. What survives of the large wetland marsh that was once there are a series of five lakes and ponds connected by lagoons and waterways created by land reclamation projects prior to WWII. Pied-billed Grebe, American Coot, Redhead, both scaup, Ring-necked Duck, Ruddy Duck, Bufflehead, and all dabbling ducks and geese can be seen. Songbirds and marsh birds are also present in the woods and waterways throughout the park. In summer you may even see a Great Egret. Enter the park and it's one-way loop road from Pattison Avenue across from the sports complex on Broad Street.

DIRECTIONS: From 1-95 take the Broad Street, Exit (#17). Immediately merge left and stay left for the left turn onto Pattison Avenue. The FDR Park entrance is 150 ft ahead on the left.
