Martins Creek Environmental Preserve
Northampton
DESCRIPTION: 215 acres near the Martins Creek Power plant. There are several trails traversing woodlands, open fields, and along the Delaware river. Good site for migrants and several species breed here. A variety of butterflies can be seen in summer. Peregrine Falcons nest on the smoke stack. Ospreys nest on the power lines. The site is great for warblers and other songbird migrants in the Spring and Fall, and waterfowl in winter on the river. Description adapted from Birds of the Lehigh Valley and Vicinty, available at http://www.lehigh.edu/~bcm0/lvas/BOLV.htm.

DIRECTIONS: There are two parking lots. One is on Martins Creek-Belvidere Highway, 0.3 miles west of the bridge to Belvidere, N.J. The second lot is off DePues Ferry/Foul Rift Road. From PA 611 go east on Martins Creek Belvidere Highway. (Follow signs for PPL.) Turn right on DePues Ferry, go about 0.9 miles to the lot on the left. Maps are posted at both parking lots and paper copies are usually available at the information signs. The maps describe the types of habitat they go through. Trails are well marked and most are easy walking. A few spots are steep. Several Osprey nests can be seen from DePues Ferry/Foul Rift Road. Bug repellent is a must in the warmer months.
