DESCRIPTION: This 2,546-acre park consists of a gorge which was carved out by melt waters from the glacial age. Slippery Rock Creek flows through the gorge which is a designated National Natural Landmark.
Birders can choose from four hiking trails that total eleven miles of enjoyable birding: Alpha Pass is 1.5 miles and is rated as moderately hard. Hells Hollow is 0.5 easy miles. Killdoo Trail is a moderate 2-mile loop. Slippery Rock Gorge is 6.2 miles and is moderate to difficult hiking.
It is also fun to bird the roads or picnic areas. Many birders have enjoyed the sound of many warbler songs mixed in with Winter Wren singing on Rim Road. |
DIRECTIONS: The entrance to McConnells Mill SP is on US 422 and is approximately 8 miles east of the city limits of New Castle.
