East Branch Lake (Elk State Park)

DESCRIPTION: This lake is rather steep-sided and has little in the way of emergent aquatic vegetation. Waterfowl such as ducks, mergansers, loons are sometimes seen. Osprey nest at the upper end of the lake. Bald Eagle are frequently observed in winter at the outflow of the dam.

DIRECTIONS: The East Branch Clarion River Lake is a flood-control dam with two distinct access sites. Elk State Park is at the upper end of the lake. From Wilcox on US 219 take Rasselas Road east past the village of Rasselas approximately 7.3 miles. Turn south at the entrance sign to Elk State Park for 1.6 miles (dirt) to Elk State Park boat launch. N 41.6061, W 78.5633 The other access point is at the dam. From Johnsonburg on US 219, go east on Bendigo Road 5.5 miles to Glen Hazel past Bendigo State Park. At Glen Hazel, turn left on Flower Valley Road and go 1.6 miles north and turn right on Maple Lane. The boat launch is another 1.2 miles
