Crooked Creek Lake
Armstrong
DESCRIPTION: Crooked Creek Lake (350 acres) is a Flood Control Reservoir owned and maintained by the U.S. Corps of Engineers. The surrounding area (also owned and maintained by the USACE) with several trails/different habitats consists of 2,664 acres, some of which follows Crooked Creek which comes from the north (Indiana Co.) and flows through the lake and out into the Allegheny River at Rosston, PA (near Ford City). There are several good "birding spots" along the creek where land beside it is part of the USACE. These spots as well as the trails can be good in the summer when the lake has boaters, swimmers, and fishermen using it. There is a Park Office and Visitor Center, restrooms throughout the park/lake, drinking water available, camping and day use only area, a few boat launches, a handicapped fishing deck at the outflow where there are several good paths. The Baker Trail comes through the area in several locations. At the main boat launch there are several trails, one of which is a horseback riding trail and one which continues more into the woods and a ravine. There are several very good maps of the entire area at the Park Office and staff are friendly and helpful as well as the Park Rangers.
