Description:
Small bird, ~4”, blue head, green back, red breast

Behavior:
Bird was at a tube feeder in the back yard. No other birds present. Stayed a minute or two then quickly flew away.

Separation from similar species:
Only bird present

Discussion:
I had never seen a bird with this coloration. Attempted a photo, but it was through a screen window which had more screen than bird.

How positive are you about the identification:
Positive. After viewing the bird I immediately went to my Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Birds and matched the photo to what I saw. I also discovered that this area is far above the northern end of the painted bunting range. I also looked at google images of the painted bunting to confirm, although the one I saw was certainly not the most colorful example, but some photos were an exact match.
