Age/Plumage/Sex: Bird not seen
Habitat: Suburban yard
Distance from bird: 25 m
Viewing Conditions: clear morning
Optics Used: my ear
Description: I did not see the bird, but did hear the raspy song and picky-tuck call. I am very familiar with the species. In fact I had just been down in Costa Rica in the winter and heard quite a few Summer Tanagers, which I first identified by the distinct call and later confirmed visually. I do not have a recording or photo of the Summer Tanager I recorded on this list, but am confident with my identification. There were several, verging on many, relatively speaking, Summer Tanagers seen at the Heinz NWR only 11km south of my yard.
Behavior: Bird was not seen. It was vocalizing
Separation from similar species: By voice. Picky-tucky-tuck is diagnostic to my ear
How positive are you about the identification: Yes. I don't know what I might have confused it with
