Mike Fialkovichโs contributions to Pennsylvania ornithology are known to many birders through his long-running involvement with PSO and Three Rivers Birding Club.
Mikeโs list of contributions to our collective knowledge of bird life in Pennsylvania is long and so are many of his commitments. He has not just participated in monitoring efforts, but played leadership roles and sustained his involvement for years, even decades.
A past president of PSO and current president of 3RBC, Mike also served on the Pennsylvania Ornithological Records Committee.
For PSOโs Pennsylvania Birds journal, Mike has served decades as a Seasonal Editor and the compiler for Allegheny and Fayette Counties.
Mike is able to write so well about Pennsylvaniaโs bird life because he is often out experiencing it. And he is quick to take part in the many opportunities for birders to contribute to science. Mike served as a regional coordinator and species account writer in the 2nd Breeding Bird Atlas and – for the 3rd Atlas now underway – is co-coordinator for Allegheny County.
Mike keeps his calendar full – with Breeding Bird Survey routes, Winter Raptor Survey routes, and Christmas Bird Counts throughout the region.
In 2011, Mike was honored with the Todd Award from the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania for outstanding contributions to conservation.
